Norway is a country of majestic scenery spread over
a vast area. See it at your own pace by hiring a campervan, RV
or Motorhome.
Oslo
should be the first stop on your Motorhome
holiday. Oslo, Norway’s capital and largest city, has a vibrant arts
culture, with a large selection of museums, galleries and other
cultural attractions on offer.
Fjordland
and the Southwest is the most popular area with tourists due
to its scenery. The best known fjord is Sognefjordan. Others
include Førdefjorden, Hardanger
Fjord and Nordfjord. The region also features the Hardangervidda
Mountains and the Jostedalsbreen glacier, and Norway’s highest
mountain, Galdhøpiggen.
The
city of Bergen features many buildings dating from the 17th century
and earlier. A funicular railway takes passengers to the top
of Mount Fløyen, giving
outstanding views of the city and coastline.
Stavanger,
Norway’s
fourth largest city, features Europe’s largest collection
of wooden buildings. Make sure you include it on your Motorhome
holiday itinerary. Other attractions include the Fish Cannery Museum
and the Norwegian Museum.
When
on a Motorhome or RV vacation, remember to observe speed limits
and blood alcohol limits, which are very strict in Norway.
Oppland
and Hedmark is a beautiful but sparsely populated region that
features glacial valleys and winter sports. Lillehammer, on the
shores of Mjøsa Lake, is Norway’s
largest winter sports centre. It features the Norwegian Olympic
Museum.
Trondheim
has a number of major attractions, including the Nidarosdomen
Cathedral, the Ringve Museum with its collection of rare historical
musical instruments, and the Trøndelag
Folk Museum.
Norwegians
drive on the right, so we recommend that you do so also. Roads
are of good quality and well maintained, great for RV or campervan
holidays. Driving in winter can be hazardous, so make sure you
are prepared and have the right equipment. The North Cape is
an attraction in summer, as people come to view the Midnight
Sun.
